WDC for Meteorology	The World Data Centre (WDC) System was established in 1957 and is operated under the auspices of the International Council for Science (ICSU). On the basis of the State Establishment “All Russian Research Institute of Hydrometeorological Information - World Data Centre (RIHMI-WDC) three WDCs are maintained: for Meteorology for Oceanography for Rockets, Satellites and Rotation of the Earth WDC accumulates information resulted from all international research programmes on the Earth system conducted under ICSU. WDCs maintained on the basis of RIHMI-WDC are part of the Regional Cluster based on the group of Russian World Data Centres and Ukrainian Data Centre for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development and are involved in the transition from the World Data Centre System (WDCS) to the World Data System (WDS) WDC holds long-term international data on the state of the environment on 4000 magnetic tapes, 45 CD-ROMs and 65 thousand paper documents, including data of almost all large-scale international programmes completed not long ago such as the Global Atmospheric Research Programme (GARP), Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere Programme (TOGA) and other. In addition WDC receives through the Global Telecommunication System operational global information on the state of the environment (more than 100 thousand messages per month).
